Next, you will need to host your Website. Since Websites live on computers called servers, you will need to find a server to put yours on.
There are many hosting companies out there, but I've chosen to use www.GoDaddy.com . This is covered in more detail, below. Now you have a name and a place to host your Web Site, and maybe you've even written some content. You're on your way.
Advertising: income from your website
But, there is no money without advertising. I'm an advocate of modest advertising. When people visit your site, you don't want to hit them with so much advertising that the don't take your site seriously. Put yourself in their shoes. When you search for information on the web, you probably just keep looking when you find a site that's nothing but ads with a few links to other sites where the real information lives. But, when you find a site with good information (content), you don't mind if there are a few, relevant ads. Especially if they're businesses that tie into the content.
Maybe your site is about Dog Grooming. If you buy your shampoo online, and can recommend that brand, then people will want to use the same brand. Many online businesses have Affiliate Programs. Most are free to join. An Affiliate Program will allow you to place links and/or banner ads on your site that link to that business. If someone buys Doggie Shampoo by clicking through to the supplier from your Web Site, you are paid a commission.
Search Engines: how to get indexed
Well, now we have a Domain Name, A hosted Web Site, well written Content and Affiliate Program advertising. Are we making money yet? Probably not. Why? Because nobody knows we exist, yet. We need to get the word out. We also need to make sure that the Search Engines, like Google, know we exist, and like us enough to put us high on their list. This is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Ok, so now, maybe we're making a little money. At this point, it's just a matter of tweaking the look of the site, keeping the content up-to-date, promoting the site and doing some SEO to get to the magic $1.00/day point. Then we start all over again with another Domain. Only 136 to go!
Sounds like a lot of work, huh? Well, yes and no. The content doesn't have to be updated daily, or weekly or even monthly. A lot of information is good for a long time. Just make sure that if something does go stale on one of your sites, you update it. If you think of something that will enhance one of your sites, add it. Once it's up and running, it just needs to be monitored and maintained. Plus, each site will be easier to set up than the previous one, as you learn tricks and start using powerful tools.
One tool I highly recommend is Joomla. It will allow you to build professional Web Sites that are highly optimized in about an hour each (not counting the time it takes to write the content). CrazyAboutDomains.com was developed using Joomla.
So, enough for the overview, let's get started! |
