Get started monetizing domains E-mail

ImageWelcome to CrazyAboutDomains.com, the site for people who want to learn about Monetizing Domains. My goal is to pass along the lessons I've learned to help kick start your business.

No, I'm not an expert, just someone who is learning this exciting business and would like to share my experiences with you. I first heard the term Domain Monetization in March of 2006.  As of this writing, that was just a few weeks ago.  A co-worker decided to leave the company I work for, since his Domain Monetization business was doing so well.  Needless to say that got my attention.  He gave me a bunch of links to articles on various related topics, and provided a few key suggestions.  At that point I decided this was something I wanted to get involved in.  So here I am.

Overview

If you've never heard of Domain Monetization before it basically means making money from Internet Domain Names.  This can be done a number of ways, but initially I am going to concentrate on how to make money with informational and entertaining Websites.  These are simple Websites with 3-10 pages of useful or entertaining information, and some targeted advertising.  The information, called content, gets people to your Website.  The people visiting your Website are called traffic, and the more the merrier.  The advertising is how you make money.

How much money?  I'm using $1.00 per day per domain as my target.  So, we're not talking about developing just one Website that makes a ton of money, but rather hundreds of simple sites.  If your goal is to make $50,000 per year, you will need to develop about 137 sites.  That's $50,000 dollars per year / 365 days per year = 137 dollars per day.  Since each Website averages one dollar per day, you'll need 137 sites.  It may seem like I'm using the terms Domain and Website interchangeably, and in a way I am.  The Domain Name is the address of your site, like CrazyAboutDomains.com or JoeBucks.com.  The Website is what you see when you type the Domain Name Address into your browser.

So, you will need a Domain Name and some content.  Start off by picking a subject you know something about.  Remember, the Internet is BIG, so there's lots of room for highly focused or niche topics.  Think about your hobbies, interests, profession, religion, politics, etc.  Pick something that you are really interested in, since that will be easier for you to write a few pages about.  Then pick a memorable domain name.  I personally believe there are still a lot of good names available.  On the www.GoDaddy.com  site, you can enter a domain name and it will immediately tell you if it's taken.  If it's already been taken, GoDaddy will make suggestions for alternative names that are available.  This is all covered in detail, below.
